EC Wise VP Tom Spitzer to present at Xploration 17
EC Wise is pleased to announce that VP of Engineering Tom Spitzer has been selected to present an educational session on Database Security at Xploration 17, hosted by Xplor International, which is being held March 28-30, 2017 at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida. The objective of the session is to educate the customer communications community on the key things organizations need to consider in order to increase their confidence in the security of their data.
Obviously, security is paramount in data management systems. Tom’s session will discuss the core strategies for ensuring the security of your databases, including encrypting data at rest and in transit, key management, user and service authentication, secure data sharing, protecting against injection attacks and auditing changes. The specific challenges and tactics for implementing these strategies vary between relational databases and NoSQL. In Tom’s presentation, he will look at the tools, processes and practices organizations can put in place regardless of where they are storing their data, and then look at touch on some product specific tools provided by leading database vendors. Finally, the session will look at where database security fits into the larger picture of cyber-security within the enterprise, reviewing how advanced persistent threats (APTs) generally take place, and how the enterprise can make it harder for hackers to access your databases.
Tom Spitzer is a software industry and IT services veteran, having been the lead technologist at both consulting and software development companies for over twenty-five years. As part of the EC Wise senior team, he leads the company’s secure development and secure database implementation practices. Over the years, Tom has made presentations at many technical conferences and written for a variety of industry publications. Prior to EC Wise, Tom was CTO at a late 90’s venture backed e-commerce startup and earlier was Chief Architect for SBT Accounting Systems, which at the time was the leader in providing source code accounting software and accounting software built on commercial database products.
